Abstract

This text presents the review of the work Five essays about humor and discourse analysis, written by Sírio Possenti, professor of the Department of Linguistics of the University of Campinas. The book published by Pontes Publisher of the Campinas city, consists of seven written texts and some already published by the author, additional by considerations and explanations about humor and discourse analysis. The author, by choosing the arrangement of his texts, enables to the reader to construct a progressive knowledge, as far as presents the various possibilities of humor and how this dialogues with Discourse Analysis. The work reading shows that humor is a field and under this perspective any type of text can be interpreted in a humorous way, a comic strip, an advertisement or proverbs and sometimes it comes as a representation of a critic. In this way it shows that there is not a complete sense in the texts that bring humor, its linguistic constructions strengthen possible meanings, humor effects.
